# OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The Asia Pacific Coalition of Cities Against Discrimination (APCAD) is the region’s chapter of the International Coalition of Inclusive and Sustainable Cities, and works to foster inclusive policies and practices in cities and municipal authorities through networking and information sharing. Founded in 2008, APCAD is seeking to re-invigorate dialogue amongst like-minded cities to deliver against the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda.
Under the lead city of Gwangju, Republic of Korea, and the secretariat based in UNESCO Bangkok, APCAD’s 2022 work plan aims to consolidate and expand the network through strengthening communication and outreach with cities, providing opportunities for sharing of good practices and actively developing new inclusive initiatives. Key projects will include:
APCAD City Social Inclusion Marker Pilot.
City Art-Lab.
Meetings and events for APCAD Members, including the annual APCAD meeting held as part of the World Human Rights Cities Forum and regular executive and committee meetings to progress APCAD activities.
Website and newsletter providing on-going information sharing and outreach with member cities.
This intern will provide support to the implementation of APCAD’s activities through the following tasks:
1. Assist in the management of the APCAD website include regular updates on member activities, research and sharing of information on city inclusive practices, and promoting APCAD events.
2. Assist in the production and dissemination the APCAD newsletter to both members and unaffiliated cities and municipalities.
3. Support APCAD events including event design, logistics, promotion and reporting.
4. Support related APCAD and ICCAR events at the World Human Rights Cities Forum and Global Forum Against Racism.
5. Assist in the organization of regular APCAD meetings including executive and committees.
6. Assist Gwangju City and UNESCO in implementation of the APCAD City Social Inclusion Marker Pilot- and City Art-Lab, including production of progress reports and information for sharing amongst members.
7. Promote membership in APCAD through outreach and information sharing including UN city / urban networks and activities.
8. Assist in the preparation of APCAD communication materials and content for sharing with members.
9. Support other related UNESCO activities including Master Class, Global Forum Against Racism and city human rights training.
The internship/volunteership is full time and maybe completed on-site at Gwangju City or UNESCO, or virtually. UNESCO/Gwangju City does not provide any remuneration but will provide office facilities for on-site interns/volunteers.

# REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Advanced University degree in any of the social sciences and a good understanding of interdisciplinary issues related to society, culture and environment. A qualification in an area related to communication for development would be an advantage.
Subjects: Social sciences including geography, community development, law or other.
Language skills: English required. Chinese, Russian or other UN languages and advantage. Korean would be an advantage for national activities in Korea.

Ability to work effectively in a team and to maintain good working relations within a multi-cultural environment.

# LEARNING OBJECTIVES
The internship/volunteership will assist candidates to gain real world international work experience in a United Nations setting, mentored by UN staff and Gwangju International Center, and include the following learning elements:
Participation in UN coordination and networking activities;
Networking using a range of tools including traditional, face to face and social media, in particular investigation into ways to build city networks;
Project design and coordination skills; and
Intersectoral and holistic approach, allowing to develop interdisciplinary skills and collaboration with different agencies and sectors.
